Position Title:

 Horses for Hope Equine Assisted Narrative Therapy Program Counsellor.

Reports to: Manager Horses for Hope Limited

 

 Review/Evaluation: Initial Probation period of 6 months, thereafter annual review.

 

Employment conditions:  SCHCAD Award [SC]   Level 6.2

 

Key Role

 

To undertake training in and provide Counselling in Equine Assisted Narrative Therapy. 

 

 

Position Objectives

  • Conduct counselling sessions in conjunction with experienced practitioner during training period (expected to be approximately 3 to 6 months)
  • Conduct Counselling sessions on completion of training
  • Undertake required communication with clients outside of program sessions.
  • Receive and manage referrals
  • Write participant reports as required
  • Effectively manage administrative procedures relating to participants including liaison with referring organisations, maintenance of records, filing and invoicing
  • Prepare reports regarding Counselling services as required
  • Participate in Horses for Hope activities relating to development of relationships within the community
  • Participate in program evaluation activities
  • Participate in on going training as required
  • Maintain Child Safe practices and standards
  • Maintain safety standards and risk management practices
  • Participate as required in organizational management/development processes as required, eg staff meetings.
  • Other duties as required

 

Mandatory Qualifications

 

Must hold current

  • Working with Children’s Check
  • Current Driver’s license
  • Successful Completion of National Police Records Check
  • Qualifications that enable registration/membership with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA), Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), or Psychology Board of Australia, or the Australian Counsellors Association.

 

Desired but not Mandatory

 

  • Experience with handling horses using natural horsemanship principles
  • Knowledge and experience in Narrative Therapy practices
  • Experience in provision of counselling within trauma informed framework
  • Ability to provide Counselling for people of all ages, with a range of abilities and people who find engaging in counselling difficult.

 

Must be prepared to -

  • Participate in training and develop a plan for the training period.
  • Participate in regular review of work and regular supervision.

 

Key selection criteria

 

  1. Qualifications to enable practice as a Counsellor in Australia and eligibility for registration with or membership of the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA), Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), Psychology Board of Australia or the Australian Counsellors Association.
  2. Demonstrated experience as a Counsellor with people who experience the impacts of a wide range of difficulties on their lives.
  3. Ability to work in a trauma informed way and knowledge or understanding of Narrative Therapy approaches
  4. High level interpersonal and communication skills (including written and computer skills.
  5. Experience dealing with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
  6. Ability to be flexible and creative
  7. Ability to work as part of a team whilst also being able to work without close supervision.
  8. Commitment to undertaking training and professional development and a willingness to undertake training in Equine Assisted Narrative Therapy
  9. Empathy for or ability to work with animals
  10. Demonstrated understanding of Occupational Health and Safety, quality assurance and Equal Opportunity principles as they apply to the workplace.
  11. Demonstrated ability to “fit” with the Beliefs and Values of Horses For Hope
